Battlefield: Bad Company Weapons

Best Choices for Assault, Demolition, Recon, Specialist, and Support

Choosing the right gun in Battlefield: Bad Company for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 can make all the difference between top scores and frustration.

The large number of weapons available in Battlefield: Bad Company for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 can make choosing between them a difficult task. Each weapon has its strengths and weaknesses; the key is to find the one weapon for each class that is best throughout the changing conditions on the battlefield.

This guide should help in sorting out which weapons are most effective for each of Battlefield’s five classes, especially for those players just starting out in the game.

Assault Class: The M16

The choice for the assault class is a difficult one. The M16 and F2000 are both fantastic weapons that are effective in any number of situations. Ultimately, however, the M16 wins out due to its slightly higher accuracy.

The F2000’s insane rate of fire actually makes it less desirable than the M16. It’s just too easy to waste bullets in a panicked spray and end up with an empty clip when the enemy gets up close and personal. The F2000 is probably better in extreme close quarters, but overall, go with the M16.

Demolition Class: The USA512

Like the assault class, there are several effective choices in the demolition soldier’s arsenal. The pump-action guns like the 870MCS and the NS2000 do a great deal of damage when the enemy is in close proximity. The downside is pump action. If you miss or just graze an enemy on the run, chances are you’ll be dead before you are able to take another shot at them.

The semi-automatic shotguns are much more forgiving. They still do decent damage, and you’re ready to fire again almost instantly after a miss, kills just take a few more shots.

Recon Class: The M95

The superiority of semi-automatics doesn’t hold up for the recon class, however. The ability to fire again immediately after a miss is nice, but at the range from which snipers usually shoot, the kind of frantic trigger pulling that often occurs after a miss is very counter-productive and rarely leads to anything but wasted ammo.

The advantage of bolt-action is that it forces you to take your time and only make well-aimed shots. This leads to higher efficiency and less wasted ammo due to misses.

Also, a sniper rifle should be able to take down an enemy with one well-aimed shot, and the semi-automatics just don’t have the power to do so. Stick with the M95; it’s the highest-powered gun in the game and one of the only ones capable of one-shot kills. Just make sure you aim for the head.

Specialist Class: The UMP

The specialist’s compact assault rifles all handle pretty similarly. The differences between them in terms of damage and fire rate are pretty much negligible. In this tight race, the UMP comes out on top simply because it seems to be more effective than the other weapons in differing situations and because it’s the only one that has its own trophy.

Support Class: The MG36

Yes, there are LMGs that do more damage, have bigger clips, and fire faster, but the MG36 wins out simply by virtue of the red dot sight. All the other weapons have massive iron sights that keep the player from seeing practically anything below where they are aiming. The MG36’s better sight will lead to more kills on the battlefield and fewer deaths from players that were obscured from view by massive iron sights. Unlock the MG36 first.

I have all of the weapons you mention except the UMP but only because I'm not the specialist very often. The MG36 was totally a great call by the way. That sight helps a lot! Thanks for the guide! http://www.xbox360noob.blogspot.com/

The M95 is definitely not the best sniper in BF:BC. The crosshair is excessively large, so even if you have an extra 5% dmg on it, it's not worth the trade for being able to snipe effectively at long range. Hell, you can't even see the person's head at past 200m since the crosshair blocks it. Besides, the extra 5% dmg is pretty much only useful to all the people who can't get a headshot in the game, which is actually really easy. In my opinion, change the best sniper to the M24, which offers superb accuracy to the M95 AND the cross hair is perfect. Hell, I'd even recommend the SVU or the SVV to the M95.

i don't with the assault, sniper and the lmg choice, but that just because of my personal likings.

i for one am a new weapon lover, so that influences my choices a lot. i also go for guns because of their looks (shame on me).

for me the xm8 is the best choice in the assault array, because the iron sights are the nicest and the guns fire rate compared to damage is just perfect in my opinion. before i get low on ammo i will probably be dead so a high fire rate isnt always that bad, the f2000 is too extreme though, i agree with that.

with lmg's i would go with the xm8 lmg (just because i like the xm8 rifle) and maybe the m249 as well. because the red dot sight really isnt THAT nice for short-medium range (ie urban warfare). also i just think the design is butt ugly :D.

as for the sniper choice, just like another guest already pointed out, the crosshair is really annoying. i'd go with the m24 as well, but not a sniper rifle that has a little dart as a crosshair (ie svu), i find them really annoying, but that is just a matter of taste.

I have to say that I found the XM8 to be the best weapon to use on Assault. It's a good combination between the M16's accuracy and the F2000's fire rate.

I'd have to say that Donkey Kong is way superior to Mortal Combat.

MG 36, really great weapon completely agree with you guys
The M16 is the first weapon I unlocked, even before the auto injector the rate of fire can get a little annoying when your fighting with the specialist guys, still my favorite weapon in the game
used the UMP very little and haven't unlocked it yet my favorite weapon at the time is the UZI, the UMP is better though
M95 all the way baby, HELL YES!!!!! power is superior crooshairs are fine
USA512 sucks!!! i never miss with a shotgun my favorite is the 870MCS

actually with the M95 you can get body shots and kill.
plus the semi auto sniper rifles are good for people on the run.
it just depends on your situation.

Nice information, but I disagree with many of your choices and the reasoning behind them.

Assault: M16, that's a no brainer. The range makes it supreme at what assault does best: Medium to Long Range. If you want short range, you could go with the f2000... or you could play an actual class that dominates it. Don't use a wrench when you need a screwdriver. The power is amazing as well. This is one of the easiest to figure out.

Demo: good choice. An autoshotgun is best, they can still 1-shot, and if don't get it you can shoot again. The same thing happens with the other shotguns - if you graze, you don't kill. It's not so much how much dmg you do, its how many shots it takes.

Recon: This one is close actually, but I'd go with M95. You CANNOT 1-shot someone with this except with a headshot (you do 95 dmg to the chest). The sight is fine on this gun. The other bolt actions are just as fast and kill in as many shots, so use the gun to kill the guy who doesn't have perfect health. You may argue for the semi-auto snipers, but they don't even kill with headshots, and they don't shoot fast enough to make up for this.

Specialist: I disagee strongly with picking the UMP. The specialist is the #1 king of close to medium combat, so use the gun best fit for that. You want to be versatile, be assault. The best gun for specialist is actually the default guns. The other guns simply have too much spray, and the UMP has too slow a rate of fire. The point of this gun is basically hold the trigger at their head, using the fast rate of fire and low recoil. If played right, this can be the most deadliest class.

Support: MG3. I have to STRONGLY disagree with the MG36. The red dot is cute, but the point is to kill, and the iron sights are not that bad, don't be so dramatic. You shouldn't be walking around with the sights up, you pull it up to kill. Just look at the damage charts, if not in-game experience - the damage of the MG36 is actually lower than the specialist's guns! It is the weakest gun of the game! The MG3, on the other hand, has extremely high damage, on par with the m16. It is the only support gun that does any damage. Know that the support class has the worst gun in any situation, but the most versatile. What I mean is that the assault is better at medium/long, specialist at short/medium, recon at long, and demo at short, but support comes in second in any of those situations (well, the MG3 does). That is the what makes the support great, versatility.

LIES! The best sniper is the QBU88! And the Best Assaut rifle is the xm8!
In 90% of the multiplayers i'm in the top 5 because of my qbu88 or my xm8!

I agree with most of the choices, however I am not stupid enough to have one priimary weapon for each class. I use each gun equally, for more versetality, if not making gameplay funner.

*Sighs* This is a constant argument in my squad. But, we still push our favorites on each other. Of course, in the end, it comes down to personal preference. Here are mine...
Assault: Ick. I'm garbage with em, although the grenade launcher helps for infiltration (nicknamed "bhook" for the sound it makes) Anyway, the XM8 pumps out decent damage at an awesome rate, so...yeah.
Demolition: While I had the most success with the SPAS12 ducking in and out of doors and handling packs, I've switched to the USAS12 for range and a steady stream of damage while closing in on a target. SPAS12 for urban, USAS12 for outdoors.
Specialist: I've put too many miles on the UMP to trash it, but the XM8C is becoming a new fav. Like mentioned before, shoot first, shoot fast, reload on the run. ***Don't forget to put tracers enemy vehicles AND gun emplacements. For distance, you have to aim above, as the dart will drop. It also won't go through bushes or trees. Tag away for free points and rocket-happy teammates***
Support: M60. Hands down. Will chew through a squad in seconds. I've opened fire on a target to have his team spawn and get mowed down. It also will tear apart gunships, boats, and cars. A definite must...once you adjust to the sights. Just remember to pull up slightly and keep the "pin" on or just under enemy heads.
Recon: This MUST come down to personal preference. I trained on the SVU due to the clip size, repeat fire, and silencer, but...GOL/SV98/M24. All day. They reload fast and will off wounded enemies at any distance. Within 40 yards, its a damn shotgun. Hit an arm, leg, gut, etc. Have fun watching them drop. I've taken to kneecapping just to see the ragdoll physics kick in.

if you think the m95 is the best sniper rifle, you obviously havent played this game...most kills are done by the VSS and QB88. Most of the time when using the m95 the target has taken cover after you hit them the first time. The QB88 takes only 3 quick shots that gives the enemy no chance to move, and not to mention it is still a one shot kill headshot. Also the shotgun chosen was a bad call, as i am almost never killed by this weapon, if you know how to aim the NS2000 is best. The others are good calls though

Personally i prefer the M95 sniper rifle over the QBU88, but if you can't dispose moving enemies with headshots, go with the QBU88, unless you are sniping at very long ranges. I agree that the M24 scope is better than the the M95 but it doesnt disrupt me sniping.
Overall: If youre good: M95
If youre bad : QBU88
