Survival horror / action game Resident Evil 5's Mercenaries Mode pits 1-2 players inside a small level, rewarding a high score for surviving long lengths of time and defeating numerous enemies at a time for big combo bonuses. Chris Redfield (STARS) is unlocked by achieving an A+ on Experimental Facility, Stage 5 (40,000 points single-player, 80,000 Co-op). Mercenaries is unlocked by playing through the single-player / co-op campaign mode. Read this RE5 game guide on Chris Redfield (STARS) for hints, tips, strategies, and more on how to achieve a higher score and unlock characters and stages using Chris Redfield, STARS Outfit. Mercs Chris Redfield (STARS) EquipmentThe following is a list of all the weapons, equipment, and supplies Chris Redfield, STARS Outfit, carries at the start of the match.
STARS Chris receives three weapons (machine gun, magnum, and grenade launcher)and some ammunition. STARS Chris Equipment Guide - Machine Gun, Magnum, Grenade LauncherChris Redfield, STARS outfit, receives a rather odd, but varied, weapon set. The SIG 556 Machine Gun can mow down many Majini with ease, but unfortunately, running short on ammunition is even easier. Shooting the SIG 556 in short bursts of 2-3 bullets can help conserve bullets. Like all magnums, Chris Redfield's S&W M29 Magnum packs quite a punch and is useful for taking out boss Majini. Ammo drops, however, are rare, and the reload time can get Chris into trouble. As for the Grenade Launcher, as with the story mode, the weapon's effectiveness largely depends on the ammo associated with it, and the Electric rounds are one of the worst. It's only really useful against large numbers and for stunning boss Majini briefly. STARS Chris has two primary weapons with greater, more focused damage potential than his other two costumes, but ammunition can become problematic. Mercenaries High Score Hints and Tips for Chris STARS OutfitAmmunition is STARS Chris's worst enemy. Even though he begins the match with 215 machine gun bullets, those run out pretty quickly, especially when employing the "Spray and Pray" strategy. Tapping the fire button instead of holding it down significantly helps ammo conservation. The Electric Rounds for the Grenade Launcher are weak, typically requiring at least two rounds before killing any enemies. Even worse, when fired too closely, the shockwave can stun Chris and leave him vulnerable. The Electric Rounds can help keep enemies at a safe distance, but isn't much more useful other than that. Different types of ammo for the Grenade Launcher can be beneficial. In particular, the "Nitrogen Rounds" freezes standard Majini, allowing Chris to rack up huge time bonuses from one-hit-kill melee strikes. However, since ammo drops are so random, it might be best to pitch the grenade launcher at the beginning of the match so ammo drops are focused entirely on Machine Gun and Magnum bullets. Reloading through the inventory menu can save time when reloading the magnum, and it's the only way to reload the Grenade Launcher with a different ammo type. Reloading through the inventory menu while performing an action (climbing a ladder, jumping, taking a zip line) allows Chris to avoid that pesky 3.5 sec reload time and prevents him from becoming vulnerable to attack. Alternatively, the Electric Rounds can be useful to stun / kill multiple enemies to buy enough time for a reload. Or, the rounds can be used to temporarily stun a boss majini to line up a few good magnum shots to finish it off. Try to avoid wasting machine gun bullets on boss characters, since the ammo will drain fast. Chris Redfield (STARS) in Co-op playSTARS Chris doesn't play well with others. No other character in Mercenaries Mode has a Machine Gun / Magnum combination, resulting in annoying, time-wasting ammo-sharing. In regards to ammo, the only character that fits well with Chris STARS Outfit is Tribal Sheva. She has infinite ammo with her Longbow, and her only other main weapon is also a Grenade Launcher, meaning both can share the grenade ammo drops. Chris STARS really cannot afford to fight alongside a character that can't share any ammo drops. Other than Tribal Sheva, Chris STARS can work with Jill Valentine BSAA and Jill Valentine Battle Suit. Both Outfits for Jill carry only two weapons, a machine gun and a rifle, meaning that Chris STARS won't have to worry as much about ammo drops that he cannot use. In the end though, Chris Redfield, STARS outfit, seems designed to fight solo. His weapon set can deal with a variety of situations, and his constant need for more ammo can make him a pain to work with when doubling up. RE5 Mercenaries Chris Redfield (STARS) ConclusionChris Redfield (STARS) packs quite a bit of power, and his weapon set, in theory, is strong and varied enough to take on most enemies. However, when put into practice, STARS Chris just lacks something. The Electric Rounds are lackluster at best, and he runs out of ammo all too frequently. And his Magnum, while good, is by no means the best of the Mercenaries characters. However, due to his versatility, he works well when playing solo.
