Leveling up as a medic in this mmorpg is fairly straightforward, like any other healer, the key function of a medic is to keep the members of his group alive.

Bounty Hunters may bring in their marks. Commandos take down large objects. Jedi pursue spiritual perfection, sometimes at the end of a lightsaber and pilots keep the people of the Star Wars Galaxies universe safe from threats from space space. When all of these galacit herosehave done their jobs, there is one class left to take care of the victims: the medic.

Unlike the real world where doctors are given their own popular prime time television shows, the medic in Star Wars Galaxies is often an unsung hero. That does not make his job any less important. Even though medics can only heal physical wounds in Sony's version of the Star Wars universe, the contributions of this class to the galactic civil war should not be overlooked. Unlike entertainers, who heal the mind and soul, medics heal the body.

Leveling Up as a Medic in Star Wars Galaxies

The medic in Star Wars Galaxies fills the same role that clerics do in fantasy based mmorpgs. As such, a medic is always in high demand for any type of ground combat action. Not only can the medic heal players, he can also bring them back to life without the dying character needing to use a cloning facility. From game play standpoint, this ability saves the medic group times, although the most important role of a Star Wars Galaxies medic is to make sure his allies do not need to use the cloning facility in the first place.

It may seem understated, but knowing how and when to use the healing abilities is the difference between a good and bad medic. Because mana does not exist in Star Wars Galaxies, the medic must watch his energy points, but healing is not all that a medic can do. Medics must be able to defend themselves and have some offensive capabilities to gain higher combat levels to earm nmore expertise points.

The biggesst healing ability is not always the best one to use. Sometimes a slower quick heal works better or is needed to keep the target alive. A big heal might be nice, but if it goes off after the recipient of the heal is dying, it does neither the wounded party, the medic, nor the the medic's party any good.

Star Wars Galaxies Medic Combat Abilities

While the ideal of a medic may be to first do no harm, if there were a Star Wars equivalent of the Hypocratic oath, medics are often called upon to defend their allies. They can use their expertise abilities to enhance their damage with ranged weapons, melee weapons, or even use special attacks that are based on their knowledge of how human and alien physiology works.

Every one of these areas of abilities has its uses, but the most important skills in the expertise tree for PvE play are those that reduce the amount of agro the medic generates.

Bacta, Bacta, and More Bacta

Rather than relying on mana to power his healing abilities, as is the case with many fantay mmorpgs, or force energy that Jedi sometimes use for the same purpose, a Star Wars Galaxies medic must rely on high technology and the use of a nearly all-puprose healing substance called bacta. Information on whether the medic has to maintain a supply of this wonder drug is hard to find, but some of the higher level abilities to require specific equipment.
